Easter Festivities

Today was Easter, and a really great day. Bethany has been able to talk with us about Jesus being "raised from the dead" and dying for our sins. And she also has truly enjoyed sharing our family's Easter traditions with her "little brudda". This week Bethany's pre-school class took a field trip to a local farm to see the animals and have an Easter egg hunt. Klein and Bridget got to go along as well. We also worked a good bit in the yard, which allowed Klein to try out his new lawnmower, that to date has only been used on the inside carpet. Finally, Easter Sunday included a morning egg hunt, family pictures and worship with our church family at St. Andy's.

We have just returned from a great family trip to kick of 2010. First, 3 days in Gatlinburg, TN where we enjoyed an indoor water park, shopping for everything we don't need, ice-skating and the surprisingly great Aquarium of the Smokies.

Then, we were off to Louisville, KY to take part in Phillip and McCauley's wedding. Really enjoyed the weekend, spending time with extended family, and welcoming McCauley to the Adams clan.

I included the following 3 pictures mainly to ask if anyone has any experience with young, male toddlers "reaching"....constantly. Klein is always reaching for something...there's nothing actually there, but yet he reaches. When he wakes up each morning, we pick him up, and he reaches his arm toward the sky as if to say "I am the champion" or "look, a plane!". It's really pretty funny.

Autumn is always full of fun, family happenings. A sampling of those for our family is pictured below. Included is Bethany's trip to the Pumpkin Patch with her pre-school class, a 2nd trip with mommy's MOPS group, Halloween (Bethany as a Bride and Klein a pumpkin, Bethany's "community helper dress-up day" at school (she's a dance teacher) and Steve and Bridget's night out at the Fox in Atlanta with Zevacs to see Ray Lamontagne. That was my particular favorite, complete with an afternoon stroll through the IKEA store, dinner at Figo Italian and then the show. I love our kids, but the night out with my beautiful wife was spectacular.

Well, sorry about the delay...just recently discovered facebook, so spending more time on that than the blog :) July was very eventful for us, in fact the whole summer was pretty crazy! Bethany turned 3 (and wanted a "mean ole witch" cake), officially started ballet, and played with friends as much as possible. We also took 2 beach trips, the first to amelia island, the second to panama city.

Easter Weekend

We had a full weekend. I mean, it was unusually full. Friday we drove to Birmingham and dropped off the kids before catching a plane to Louisville, KY to surprise Phillip and McCauley who were getting engaged (see post below). Heads didn't hit the pillow until about 2:00 am thanks to a night out to celebrate in downtown Louisville, which was a lot of fun as it seems "closing down the bar" is a bit rare nowdays with two kids at home. Saturday we made it back to Birmingham in time to reunite the whole fam momentarily before cutting out again, this time with Mark (other brother) and Morgan to see Wicked, which is also awesome by the way. Finally Sunday we were able celebrate Easter multiple times with pockets of family all across town. Easter Sunday included the usual - candy, baskets, food, family pictures, and most importantly a concentrated dose of the gospel to remind our hearts how desparately we need our Savior.

There was a great deal going on all weekend, and things never really seemed to slow down. But amazingly,we headed back to Columbus on Monday afternoon feeling like we had one of the best visits with family that we have had in a long time. Somehow the normal stress that goes along with this kind of traveling just wasn't there. We had a really good time.

We had a wonderful Christmas in Illinois, at Steve's grandfather's farm. The Kleins finally met Baby Klein, we played in lots of snow, Bethany saw her beloved kitty cats (always a new litter when she's there), we went bowling, Bethany got all the men to gather around the TV for Beauty and the Beast, and of course we sat around a lot catching up and just enjoying being with family we don't see very often. Merry Christmas everyone! We are about to pull out of the house to drive to Birmingham and then catch a plane to ice-and-snow-covered Chicago. We always enjoy seeing our family up there, and it should be an exciting trek with a 2 year old and a 3 month old on the plane. Anyway, that's it. Fall Update

Many of you will see this post and say to yourself, "wow, it's been a long time since the Adams posted a blog update...it's about time". Or maybe, "Man, the Adams must have been busy lately". Klein's home, things are great. Especially when all of our caring family members drop what they're doing to come spend time with us, help around the house, and love on Bethany. We (Steve and Bridget) so far agree that while having 2 kids at home will definitely bring future challenges, the absence of uncertainty and anxiety the 2nd time around is refreshing. It's nice to know that eventually he WILL eat, he WILL stop crying, he WILL develop a routine, and we WILL sleep. It's sort of like that phenomenon that happens when you're trying to follow directions to some new place: for some reason, the return trip home (once you know your way) always feels much, much shorter. Doesn't it?

All 8 Pounds, 11 ounces and 21.5 inches of Stephen "Klein" Adams, Jr. arrived on Monday, September 8th at 5:19pm. I'm sure we'll provide more insight later. But for now, pictures, and then a nap. Bridget and Klein are both doing very, very well.

Baby Update...

In case anyone is wondering, Bridget is now going on 5 days past her September 3rd due date with Klein. We are scheduled to report to the hospital tomorrow morning (Monday, September 8th) at 6:30 a.m. to go ahead and induce labor. Please be praying for both Klein and Bridget and we will update again soon. Hopefully with arrival news and information.

Well, we are now about 10 days from the big due date!!...Bethany can't wait for her little brother to come and Steve and I can't wait to experience raising a SON!!...
Pregnancy is such a wierd thing; i am surprised to be so close to having Klein here but at the same time it feels like i've been pregnant forever!!...I'm having a lot of pain that i didn't have with bethany but i'm also not having the symptoms of labor being close that i had with bethany, which is a little scary; am i going to go beyond my due date while being in such pain??????????? Oh well, he'll come when he's supposed to :)
This will probably be our last post until Klein gets here, and even then, you might see birth announcements before you see blog updates!...Until then....

Bethany's 2nd Birthday Weekend

Bethany turned two July 11th!! It's just too hard to believe! We started her birthday with a trip to Pine Mountain Wild Animal Safari with Nah Nah. It was too much fun! You drive through the park, feeding animals that would get in the car with you if you let them! It actually got a little scary at times. We didn't even roll down the windows for the "Guar", the huge animal in the 2nd pic. That night we celebrated with Bethany's closest buds at Burger King. It was a Nemo theme of course! Bethany wouldn't blow out her own candles but she had a great time on the playground, her favorite one to play on here in Columbus. The next day we headed down to Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra Beach, because Steve had a band gig there, so we had a little mini family vacation. It is definately all the traveling I want to do though!! I'm getting very big these days and I pretty much just want to be in a pool or on the couch with my heating pad!!! We all can't wait for baby Klein to be here!

Summer Playgroup

Today was great!! Our playgroup is planning to have an organized activity every week or so and then pool time on fridays. Today we let the children make their own smocks to use for any messy activities we do (painting, cooking, etc.) Then they played in the water out back to get all the paint off, and ended the day with some dress-up and bunk bed climbing in Bethany's room....we love our friends!

Ok...Bridget and I realize we have a lot to catch everyone up on since her last post...I'll try to be brief. First of all, we found out two weeks ago that WE'RE HAVING A BOY! We are so thankful and thrilled about that, but it is very difficult to get our arms around "boyhood" after getting used to the surprising joys of a little girl. We can't wait to meet Stephen Klein Adams, Jr. "Klein". (yes, we plan to call him Klein...get used to it).

I included a video and several pictures below that outline our last few weeks. First, the video. Yes, Bethany can now count to 10 and loves her numbers. She can also say her ABC's with a little help at "H" and some "muddy" letters in the middle. We are so incredibly proud of her and so excited to watch her learn new things about God's creation each day.

The pictures. After a week of "Banking School" up in Athens, GA last week, I met Bridget and Bethany at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. It was a blast. The highlight by far was the Tropical exhibit which included 45 versions of "Dorie", 68 versions of "Nemo" and 12 "Marlins". Also pictured is Bethany "crashing" in her swing right before dinner Wednesday evening due to a missed nap. Enjoy.

Sad Cries from a Clean House (by Bridget)

I have had a couple of opportunities the past few months to ponder a conclusion I never thought I would come up with.
Bethany's grandparents have taken turns keeping her for an extended period of time while Steve and I are at home, with no real plans. So here I sit, for the second time now, in my clean, fresh smelling house, and I'm overwhelmed by a sense of emptiness. The first time Bethany was away, I walked into the living room one night and said to Steve in all seriousness, "the house has a funny smell to it". To this he responded, "clean!". It's true, when Bethany is away my house sparkles with freshness and order, something I always seem to long for; so why the empty feeling?
Then I notice the sticky fingerprints on the bottoms of our windows, and I recall her hands and face pressed upon the glass, screaming with delight, "look mommy, a lizard!" or "airpane, mommmy, airpane!" or "bird, mommy, see?, a bird!". Believe it or not I start to miss the hazardous mess that she creates on the floor from throwing every toy out of the basket in a tazmanian devil sort of way, just to get the little trinket on the bottom that she ends up tossing after 15 seconds of good playtime.
In no way would I trade this time away from Bethany. I know it is priceless for her and her grandparents, not to mention me and steve, but I am starting to realize the sweetness of a messy house. It means Bethany is home, and exploring, and growing up way faster than I ever thought possible! So next time you hear me complaining about my messy house, I would appreciate a quick reprimand to remind me of the emptiness that comes with clean...

Tonight Bridget and I had a discussion about blogging. It wasn't so much a discussion as much as it was me reminding Bridget that she hadn't posted a blog update in approximately 30+ days. You probably know how that went over...so guess who's blogging now! Anyway friends, as you can see below we've updated with a few pictures from last month. If you like Bethany's Easter Dress you can thank her GiGi, who graciously provided several new dresses lately including this one. Bethany has also enjoyed playing mommy dress-up and daddy dress-up lately, as you can see from the lipstick incident and her confiscation of my tie and pen.

Things here have been wonderful lately. It's always so tempting to just tell people about the "things" we are involved with that tend to keep us so busy, and believe me those exist. But let me say that we are doing the things that we feel God has called us to, and I am learning that there is so much joy in that. Simplicity can be an enormous challenge, but it reaps reciprocal benefits. More and more every day Bethany exhibits a new emotion, word or thought that I realize must have come from some observation in our home. This has made me think a great deal lately about the priorities that I have set in my life, or rather lived-out, without necessarily thinking about or evaluating them. I'm not sure where I'm going with that, other than to say the weight of the calling to be a parent is even now just setting in...1 year and 9 months after Bridget and I started to attempt it.

So then I've also been thinking about my heavenly Father's love in the light of the emotions and love I've experienced as a dad to such an amazing, charming and beautiful little girl. It's hard to write about this...mainly because it seems like everything has already been said - namely that the love I experience for my child is a dim shadow of the perfect love of our Father. I guess that's something we hear a lot, in some form or another, but I think it's good to dwell on it sometimes.

I'll provide a for instance - coming home from work. It has to be one of the brightest moments of my day. First of all because I'm married to my best friend, who has put a lump in my throat every time I have seen her since middle school. But now there is also a new participant in this reunion, which means an added anticipation every day for the moment I get to hear my daughters voice, see the disaster she has created in our den, hear the new word she has learned, see the picture she has drawn or the new song she can sing. These little things are so simple but they are so awesome to be a part of. If I enjoy these things, that has to mean that the Lord enjoys in the same manner (or in a magnified way) my voice, my disasters, my messes, my new word, the pictures I draw, the songs I sing, etc. That's incredible.

Bethany is cracking me up lately! She will disappear for a while then return with hats on, q-tips in her ears, a toilet seat on her face, etc. If she's not doing things like this to herself she is doing them to Oscar. Yesterday i went into the bathroom and there was Oscar, sulking in his bed, with hair bows all over him and a few squirts of lotion on his back. This morning, she followed him with some toilet paper trying to "wipe his nose" and get his "boogies". She is really at a hilarious stage in life!

Lots to talk about!...we have had a wonderful christmas break, very full but also wonderfully slow which hardley ever happens!! we went to birmingham the weekend before christmas to celebrate with our families and had a great time...nahnah threw us a tea party and poppa took us to the zoolight safari with uncle barry and aunt laura...we had a great time at gigi and grandpa's with mark and phillip and the great-grandparents too!...we made it back home for our christmas eve service at church where bethany handed out the candles to all who came through the door!!!precious, can't believe i didn't have a camera!...christmas day was slow and relaxed with a long morning at home and a late lunch with the maxeys and the trammells....the saturday after christmas was my last one before ballet starts up again so we spent the morning together at callaway gardens enjoying the butterflies and a car picnic!! bethany is growing and talking like crazy and falling more in love with her friends everyday!

Another Scare from Santa

Instead of waiting in the mall with a pager for 2 hours to see Santa, we went to Steve's office where they called in the big guy from the North Pole for a special visit. Bethany lasted 1.5 seconds before reading Santa the riot act. Notice Bethany's Christmas gown (and the baby doll's to match)? Another creation made especially by mommy!

Friday night my friends Maggie and Zach came over while their parents went to a Christmas Party. We ate dinner together, colored pictures, played musical instruments and read lots of books. It was great fun!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at our house this year. The whole fam came down, except for Mark (with his girl), and the Perrets came over too. Lots of people, lots of food, lots of fun. It was actually the most relaxing part of my week. Getting ready for the Nutcracker was crazy!! We are so thankful for all God has given us.
